John W. Boyle has contributed to product and process design
improvements in trains, planes, automobiles, ships, and heavy equipment for
over 20 years.
John began his career working at General Motors in early
product design and competitive benchmarking.
In 1998, he joined Munro & Associates where he had the
opportunity to work with clients on airliners, cargo ships, construction
equipment design, and a new golf car.
From 2004-2008 John co-led the effort to improve Chrysler’s
competitive benchmarking process. During this time Chrysler achieved a 25-40%
design efficiency improvement on mature designs. This improvement was driven by a 400%
increase in ideas generated from the benchmarking process since completing this work at Chrysler, John took the Wall
Process to other industries and continents.
Working in the confectionery industry, he helped a
manufacturer double its factory throughput in less than six months, and then
used the Wall Process to re-launch a product line with 50% scrap reduction and
20% improved throughput.
Working in Australia, he helped a cargo train manufacturer
use the process for a 20% cost and weight reduction effort on a key
product. He then took the Wall to the
company’s China manufacturing facility to communicate the changes to the staff
and break language barriers.
John earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester
Polytechnic Institute, and a Master of Engineering in Industrial Ergonomics
from the University of Michigan.
