When Tommye
graduated from the University of Missouri in 1976 little did she know the
trajectory her career would take.
With a Journalism
Degree and an emphasis in Advertising she headed to Kansas City and worked in
the Advertising Agency business for 17 years.
During that time she rose from a receptionist position to President and
COO of one of Kansas City’s top 10 agencies.
Along the way she worked in Media and Account Services and gained experience
in marketing intangible products and services to a wide array of consumers.
In 1994 Sprint, at
the time a local and long distance phone company, hired Tommye as Director of
Strategic Planning and Research. There
she led the first long-range planning effort engaging the leadership of the
long distance division. Shortly after
the launch of the plan she was tapped to be Director of Advertising.
She was instrumental
in rolling out the “Dime-a-minute” campaign featuring Candice Bergen. The campaign won many advertising awards but
more importantly drove record call volume and sales.
A rotational
assignment gave Tommye experience in leading large groups of people. That assignment was Director of Sales at a
400-seat call center. During the three years in that role Tommye was able to
improve operating efficiencies AND employee morale. Not an easy task in a call center
environment.
That success led to
an opportunity with General Motors in Detroit, MI. Tommye is currently Call Center Manager for
OnStar and is responsible for the daily operations of a 500 seat call center
that provides services to OnStar customers who “push the blue button” daily.
She has two married
adult daughters and two grandchildren.
